Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Looking Back, Moving Forward

Breast Health, Community & What’s Coming Next
Throughout October, we’ve been learning about breast cancer awareness, recognizing changes in our bodies, understanding personal risk, and finding ways to care for ourselves. As we wrap up our series, let’s recap what we’ve learned, celebrate our community, and look ahead to what’s coming next!
What Have We Learned
Breast cancer occurs when cells in the breast grow abnormally. Although it is more common in women, men can develop breast cancer, too!
One important takeaway from our series is learning to recognize changes in your body, such as a new lump, changes in breast size or shape, skin dimpling or redness, nipple changes, or unusual discharge. Not every change means cancer, but it's important to check with your health care provider if something seems unusual.
Early detection matters
Recommended screenings, including mammograms, can help detect breast cancer early. Your age, personal risk, and family history can help determine when to begin screening. A family history or inherited gene changes, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, may increase your risk, but anyone can develop breast cancer. And remember, an abnormal mammogram doesn't automatically mean cancer. Follow up with your provider and ask questions about your results.
Small Healthy Habits Matter
Staying active, enjoying nutritious foods, learning about your family health history, and limiting alcohol may help lower breast cancer risk. While no habit can guarantee prevention, small, realistic steps can support your overall health.
Looking Back: Fall into Awareness
Our community came together for the Fall into Awareness Walk and Run, bringing people together to stay active, spread awareness, and support individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event special! Every step and conversation help remind us that awareness grows when we learn and support one another.
Keep the Conversation Going
Breast cancer awareness doesn't end in October. Continue getting to know your body, staying informed about recommended screenings, and encouraging loved ones to prioritize their health.
