Colorectal Cancer Can Be Prevented!

Colorectal = Colon + Rectum

What is colorectal cancer?

The colon and rectum are part of your digestive system. Their function is to remove water and get rid of waste from the body.
Most colorectal cancers begin as non-cancerous growths called polyps that form on the inside layer of the colon or rectum.Colorectal cancer often starts quietly without warning.

Colorectal Screening Tests

All men and women between the ages of 45-75 should have one of these two tests:

-
Screenings are done through the Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT).
You do this test ar home and send a stool sample to a doctor's office or lab every year.
All FOBT kits can be returned to Jemez Comprehensive Health Center. You may also call the
Jemez Public Health Office at (575) 834-7207 to have a Community Health Representative
return the Kit for you. All returned kits will be eligible for an incentive.

2. Colonoscopy
A test that allows a doctor to examine the inside of your colon and rectum for polyps or other
changes, at least every ten years.

To see if you are due for a screening, schedule an appointment with your Primary Care Provider at
(575) 834-3022.
