It’s no secret. Engaging in physical activity is good for your health and helps prevent chronic illness, but did you know that it also lowers your risk for colon cancer? According to The National Cancer Institute, researchers reviewed 126 studies and found that individuals who engaged in regular physical activity had a 19% lower risk of colon cancer than those who were inactive. Physical activity is defined as any movement that increases your heart rate. Walking, running, bike-riding, dancing, and even doing chores around the house/yard are all great examples of physical activity. The Center for Disease Control recommends adults engage in 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week. Setting aside 30 minutes of your day, five times a week, to exercise will improve your overall health and help reduce your risk of colorectal cancer!

As part of our campaign to raise awareness for colorectal cancer and prevention, we encourage all community members to join us on our trail to health and begin training for Endurance Jemez 2023! Every Monday and Friday until March 24, 2023, from 4 - 5 pm, the FiTT Team will host group runs/walks for anyone interested in kick-starting their EJ training. Join us TODAY, Monday, February 13, 2023 for your chance to win prizes and earn 10 FiTT points! Participants will meet at the gym in the Fitness Center, where we will hit the Jemez trails together! While training, it is important to keep in mind the following objectives:

  • Be realistic- keep your expectations in line with your commitment.

  • Have a goal- having a goal will keep you accountable and motivated. Your goal can range from a simple noncompetitive goal (I just want to finish this race) or a competitive goal (I want to finish top 5 at Endurance Jemez). Any goal is better than none!

  • Commit- the best plan/coach will not be worth anything if you don’t do the work prescribed. Embrace the process. Reaching your potential and achieving ambitious goals will require sacrifice and consistency!

YOU CAN DO THIS!
