The Duke City Marathon is here! Whether you’re running, walking, or doing a bit of both, this weekend is all about celebrating movement, community, and all the miles you’ve put in to get here. As you prep for race day, here are some quick tips to help you feel strong, confident, and ready to cross that finish line.
Before you turn in for the night, be sure to double-check all event details like start times, parking, and course maps here: Race Info | Duke City Marathon
Do’s for the Day Before
Hydrate. Drink water steadily throughout the day – not all at once – stay hydrated without feeling bloated.
Eat smart. Choose familiar meals that include carbs (like rice, pasta, or potatoes), lean proteins and vegetables. Your body will need fuel for endurance!
Get organized. Lay out your clothes, shoes, bib, and any gear. Having everything ready will make your morning stress-free.
Rest your legs. Save your energy for race day. A short walk or light stretching is fine but skip intense workouts.
Sleep well. A good night’s rest will help your body recover and perform its best!
Don’ts for the Day Before
Don’t try anything new. Stick with the shoes, clothes, and foods you’ve trained with. Trying new gear may cause blisters and new foods may cause stomach issues.
Don’t skip meals or overeat. Keep your meals balanced and consistent.
Don’t stress the details. You’ve prepared – trust your training and enjoy the moment!
Fueling Tips
Dinner the night before: Go for something simple and carb friendly, like pasta with grilled chicken, rice bowls, or baked potatoes. Try to avoid spicy and greasy foods.
Race morning breakfast: Try to get a meal 2 to 3 hours before the start time if possible. Great options include oatmeal, toast with peanut butter, or a banana.
Snacks: Bring something light for before or after the race, such as fruit, a granola bar, or trail mix.
What to Expect
When you arrive on race day, you’ll feel the excitement all around — the cheers, the music, and the energy of everyone coming together to move and celebrate. Whether it’s your first marathon or a yearly tradition, take in the scenery and the incredible sense of accomplishment that comes with every step.
Remember: finishing is the real victory. You’ve already done all the hard work. Now it’s time to celebrate it. Good luck to all our Duke City runners and walkers – we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way! 🏅
