Make Healthy Drink Choices!

For every additional 12-ounce sugar-sweetened beverage consumed each day, the risk of type 2 diabetes rises 25%!

Frequently drinking sugar-sweetened beverages is associated with weight gain and obesity and can increase your risk for heart disease, kidney disease, tooth decay, and type 2 diabetes. Sugar-sweetened beverages are the leading sources of added sugars in the American diet and pose a significant threat to our health.

Healthy change can start today! This Diabetes Awareness Month, we encourage everyone to skip the added sugar and make healthier drink choices! Swapping out your soda for a cup of water will make a profound impact on your health –especially for people who are managing their blood glucose levels. The next time you go to the grocery store, read the nutrition labels on the drinks you are thinking about purchasing. You may be surprised to see the amount of sugar added to some drinks.
