November isn’t just the time for turkey and football – It’s also National Diabetes Awareness Month! Jemez Public Health is ready to make it an exciting, educational, and empowering month for everyone in the community. Whether you're looking to gain a deeper understanding of diabetes, discover ways to improve your health, or take part in fun and interactive events, we’ve got something for everyone.
Diabetes Education: Learn, Prevent and Stay Healthy
Throughout the month, we’re offering a variety of diabetes education sessions and events designed to provide you with the tools, knowledge, and resources to manage and prevent diabetes.
Thursday, November 7 – Jemez Senior Center
We’re starting off strong with our first diabetes education session at the Senior Center during lunch time. This session will cover the essentials of diabetes management, including prevention tips and what you can do to stay healthy.
Tuesday, November 19 – Jemez Day School
Our next education session will focus on empowering the younger generation! We’ll be working with the youth to teach them about diabetes and prevention. This is a great opportunity to help kids understand how to stay healthy and reduce their risk of developing diabetes.
Wednesday, November 20 – Caregivers Meeting at Jemez Senior Center
Supporting loved ones with diabetes can be challenging, and we want to ensure caregivers have all the information they need. Public Health’s Registered Dietician Fallon Bader will be providing nutritional education along with support, tips, and resources for managing diabetes care at home.
Tuesday, November 26 – Diabetes & Hunter Health Awareness
We’re wrapping up the month with a Fun Run/Walk at the Jemez Church, where we’ll be focusing on medication compliance while being in the great outdoors! This unique event will combine diabetes education with outdoor fitness, ensuring you can enjoy your favorite activities and stay on top of your health. Come join us for education and incentives!
As we celebrate National Diabetes Month, remember that managing and preventing diabetes is a journey that requires education, support and commitment. At Jemez Public Health, we’re here to help you take the next steps in living a healthier life.
Together, we can empower ourselves and the community to make better choices, stay healthy and THRIVE!
