Did you know that diabetes can harm your feet and lead to complications?

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease that harms the body due to consistently high blood sugar levels. Over time, this can lead to nerve damage called diabetic neuropathy. Nerve damage can happen anywhere in the body, but most often happens in the feet among those with diabetes.

If you or a loved one has diabetes and you lose feeling in your feet, it can be hard to tell when you have a problem—like a callus, cut, sore, or blister on your foot. Furthermore, diabetes can reduce the amount of blood flow to your feet. Numbness and less blood flow can slow the time it takes for sores to heal and lead to complications. If you have diabetes make sure to schedule regular appointments with your podiatrist, or foot doctor, to design a personal foot care plan. Take a moment to read our infographic to understand the risks of nerve damage in the feet as well as tips for keeping healthy feet
