March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and we're stepping up our efforts to raise awareness about the importance of colorectal health and early detection of colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers, but it's also one of the most preventable with early screening and detection. This month, we have an array of activities and incentives designed to engage, educate, and encourage our community to take proactive steps toward better colorectal health.
Educational Blogs, Pop-Ups, and Conferences!
This March, we're rolling out a series of engaging educational initiatives to enhance your understanding of colorectal health. Be on the lookout for our informative pop-up booths stationed throughout the clinic, as well as the highly anticipated JVR Conference. Additionally, we'll be disseminating insightful educational blogs directly to you. These promotions will be your go-to resource for valuable information on colorectal health, including the importance of regular screenings, preventative measures, and the latest research in the field. Our team of Community Health Workers will be on hand to answer your questions and provide expert guidance.
Get Moving for Health!
We're excited to announce a series of physical activities aimed at promoting overall wellness and highlighting the role of exercise in preventing colorectal cancer. Join us for a community-wide Fun Run in Collaboration with the Community Wellness Team and the School Health Initiative featuring a 5K Walk/Run on March 23, 2024, to get your heart pumping. Additionally, in collaboration with the Senior Center, we are hosting Daily Senior Walks Monday through Thursday at 9:00 am located at the Steve Gachupin Track and Field. Friday walks begin at 2:00 pm at the Public Health Modular. These activities and events are a fantastic way to support your colorectal health while having fun and connecting with others in the community.
Mass Distribution of FOBT Kits
Early detection saves lives, and one of the simplest screening methods is the Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT). We're undertaking a mass distribution of FOBT kits throughout the community. These easy-to-use kits allow you to perform the test in the privacy of your own home and are a critical first step in screening for colorectal cancer.
Incredible Incentives
To encourage participation, we're offering some fantastic incentives this month. For everyone who returns a completed FOBT kit, we're providing a $25.00 gift as a thank-you for taking this important step in cancer prevention. But that's not all - returning your kit also enters you into a drawing to win one of two exciting prizes: a Ninja Blender, perfect for making healthy smoothies and meals, or a Chainsaw, to help you tackle those outdoor projects as the weather warms up. For the community members (anyone who is between the ages of 45-75 years old) who go the extra mile and get a colonoscopy, we're offering an additional incentive—a $50.00 reward. Colonoscopies are the gold standard in colorectal cancer screening, providing the most comprehensive view of the colon's interior and the ability to remove polyps before they turn into cancer.
Let's Make a Difference Together
Colorectal Health Awareness Month is more than just an annual observance; it's an opportunity for us to come together as a community, support one another in our health journeys, and make a tangible difference in our collective well-being. We encourage everyone to participate in the activities, take advantage of the screenings and educational resources, and help spread the word about the importance of colorectal health.
Remember, early detection and prevention are key. Let's use this month to take significant strides toward a healthier future for all. See you at the events!
