Breast Cancer Awareness Month: “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters”

ree

At Jemez Public Health, we stand and walk together with the millions of lives affected by breast cancer. October is a time to raise awareness, honor those impacted, and reaffirm our commitment to equitable access to care and improved survival for all. This year’s global theme “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters” deeply resonates with our community values.

“Every breast cancer diagnosis carries a personal story, one of courage, resilience, and hope.” “These stories remind us that breast cancer affects women and families in different ways, and that every journey deserves compassion, dignity, and support.” Whether someone is newly diagnosed, in treatment, or a survivor, their experience matters. And even if it hasn’t touched us personally, we can still be the voice, the ear, or the encouragement someone needs.

Here at Jemez Public Health, we are proud to follow the strategic pillars outlined by the World Health Organization’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI):

· “Health Promotion & Early Detection: We empower our community to recognize symptoms and seek care early.”

· “Timely Diagnosis: We work to ensure diagnostic services are accessible and efficient.”

· “Comprehensive Treatment: We strive to support every patient in completing their recommended care.”

These strategies are not just guidelines though; they are actions we take every day. Through outreach, education, and culturally grounded conversations, we are creating safe spaces for dialogue, communication, and healing. We believe that awareness starts with talking, listening, and supporting one another.

“Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer among women worldwide.” The differences in survival rates across countries highlight the urgent need for coordinated action. Where a woman lives should not determine whether she survives.

To continue this momentum, we are excited to announce our upcoming Women’s Health Fair in November, where we will cover topics like breast cancer, preventive screenings,

and broader issues in women’s and community health. This event is open to all and reflects our commitment to inclusive, holistic wellness.

As October ends, we reaffirm that Jemez Public Health is dedicated to tackling global health challenges right here in our community. Through education, outreach, and compassion, we strive to make a lasting impact; bringing meaningful conversations, building strong connections, and supporting every life we touch.
