Colorectal Health Awareness
Program
The Jemez Colorectal Health Program Mission:

The Jemez Colorectal Health Program's mission is to prevent and reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer among Hemish people.

The scope of our work includes:

-
Offering culturally sensitive outreach, preventative education, and early detection screenings

-
Screenings: Our Colorectal Health Team encourages a routine screening among Hemish women and men, between ages 45-75, every year. Screenings are done through the Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT). In these tests, stools, or poop, are examined for traces of blood. This type of screening is the least expensive colorectal cancer test, takes only about five minutes, and is completely risk free. The test is taken through a kit that is mailed or delivered to patients. You can either submit your FOBT test to the clinic or call us and we will pick it up from your home. You will receive your confidential results in two weeks. The rationale for this screening program is to detect and remove the polyps before they turn cancerous and cause premature death.
